Field of dreams
July 10, 2006
Every once in a while, you'll hear a story about a player who just loves the game of football. From playing days in the backyard to Pop Warner; from high school to college; from graduating college and realizing that the playing days are over. That used to be how it ended, until players like Jonathon Bridgewater discovered the Ironman Football League.
Jonathon Bridgewater's passion for the game of football began when he started playing in the backyard for fun with his friends. He took his love for the game to Pop Warner where he played fullback and linebacker for the Bay View Redcats. Jonathon continued to play linebacker in high school at Greenfield and Whitnall, earning 1st team All-Conference and team defensive MVP his senior year. He also chased the school record in tackles where he recorded (102), but fell short by only 8 tackles that season.
"It has always been my dream to play college football," says Bridgewater. But that dream never came to be as he passed up his opportunity in order to take care of his son, Jayden. Bridgewater puts in 6 days a week in the weight room working hard and training to improve his skills every week. Realizing that his love for the game wasn't going to stop, he joined a league that a lot of its players refer to as the "working man's NFL." The Ironman Football League was a perfect fit to Bridgewater's dreams and what he wanted out of the game of football. Although, basically a rookie to the IFL on the field and as a franchise owner, Bridgewater has dedicated himself to becoming one of the league's greatest linebackers.
