From little known to well known
December 7, 2008Miguel Vargas #7 of the Shorewood Monarchs is becoming one of the Ironman Football Leagues fastest rising stars
Shorewood Monarchs #7, Miguel Vargas, is probably the most humble person you will ever meet, but one thing that is for sure - he is a difference maker and a game changer on the gridiron. As a multi-sport athlete throughout high school, Miguel was honored for his achievements in soccer, baseball and football. However, Miguel’s love for the game of football allowed him to reek havoc at many positions in football including, CB, Safety, Kicker, Punter, Kick return, QB and Running Back throughout his high school career.
Vargas hasn’t missed a step in his semi-professional playing career since joining the Ironman Football League. Going into his 3rd year with the IFL for the 2009 season as a veteran, he began his IFL career with the West Allis Predators, where he recorded six interceptions and five touchdowns on kick return despite having missed his first three games of the season. With the Monarchs in the 2008 season, Miguel rose once again to the cause surpassing expectations of many. As a team captain for the Monarchs, he has continually led by example, letting the work on the field speak for itself. During the 2008 season Vargas has recorded nine interceptions with one touchdown on a punt return, which just added to the monstrous season he had at kickoff and punt return.
Very quickly #7 is separating himself from the rest of the IFL defensive backs and moving towards the elite status of a shutdown Corner. You will not see him celebrating after an interception or touchdown, but one thing that is for sure he will be in the back of the head of the QB next time he drops back for a pass. Vargas probably had one of the best games at defensive back position by one individual in Week 7 versus the McHenry County Pirates, he recorded four interceptions and picked up two critical first downs on the offensive side of the ball.
Miguel’s energy never ceases to amaze his coaches and teammates, as he continually pushes himself harder and harder for the game he loves. He is driven by a determination to succeed and a desire to continually challenge himself and his teammates.
