Burlington, WI – The Burlington Blue Devils are ready for a true run at the championship this year with the hope that three times will be a charm. The team has suffered defeat in the American Conference Championship Game the last two years but is determined to get over the hump. With the recent player and coaching additions that have been made so far, the Blue Devils look like they are primed and ready to make that next step, a trip to Ironbowl XIV.
The off-season has gone well for the Blue devils so far as they have brought fresh new coaches on board to help the team reach its primary goal. Coach Stan “POPS” Stankowski has tasted coaching success with several past semi pro football teams and now will bring his great knowledge of the game and his successful coaching style to the Blue devils. The return of Denny Porter has been a welcomed addition as well, Porter has experience in both NFL and College coaching levels and plans to head the special teams unit in 2010.
The Blue Devils have most of their starters returning from last year plus the addition of nine newly recruited division 1 and 2 players. The Blue devils seem to have reloaded and stand poised for the 2010 campaign.
The team’s first tryouts dates have been set. The first tryout will be on January 17th at Burlington high school inside the main gym located at 400 McCanna Pkwy in Burlington, Wisconsin. Registration will begin promptly at 5:30pm, tryouts will start at 6pm and will go till 9pm. The testing will consist of the following:
- 225 pound bench press
- Vertical jump
- Horizontal leap
- 3 cone & 4 cone drill
- Box drill
- One on one drill
Cost is $20 and all participating players will get a free team T-shirt. The second tryout date is set for February 27th at the University of Whitewater sport complex located at 907 Schwager drive in Whitewater Wisconsin. Registration will begin at 4:30 and tryouts will start at 5pm. The team will be testing players in the 40 yard dash and evaluating certain players in a seven on seven passing drill.
