IFL Officially Begins Its 2010 Season This Weekend

The 2010 IFL week one preview kicks off with the defending Champion, Madison Mustangs, hosting the Wauwatosa Spartans in Middleton on Saturday. This rematch of last year’s Ironbowl matchup will be an exciting start to the 2010 IFL season. With many teams acquiring new players and talent, this week’s match-ups will be exciting for IFL fans to get to see their new look teams. Some of the questions circling around the IFL this year are: Will the Mustangs three-peat? Can the new Muskego Head Coach, Carter Robbins, duplicate the success of his predecessor? Will Sparta celebrate its first Championship this year or will they experience a meltdown? Will the Panthers and Monarchs finally taste success this year? Will the Blue Devils finally get over the hump, or will they continue to be “next years team”?

All of these questions will be eventually answered as the season progresses, but in the meantime with the season opener just a couple of days away, here is a brief preview of this week’s opening match-ups.

Spartans @ Mustangs 7PM (Middleton HS)

The defending AFC Champions, Wauwatosa Spartans, will hit the road and play the League’s defending Ironbowl Champion, Madison Mustangs. This rematch of last year’s Ironbowl should be an exciting and hard-hitting affair. Both teams are extremely talented and seem to match-up well against each other. The Spartans hope to avenge last year’s Ironbowl loss by halting the Mustang winning streak and handing them their first loss since 2007.

Panthers @ Venom 7PM (Hart Park)

With a disappointing 2009 campaign behind them, the Panthers look to unleash their new and improved passing attack on the Milwaukee Venom. This year, the Venom has upgraded their talent on both sides of the ball and will introduce a new era under new head coach Derek Diehl. Kickoff is set for 7PM.

Blue Devils @ Monarchs 7PM (Shorewood HS)

With a new attitude and some new coaches in place, Blue Devil’s team owner Tom Hawkins hopes this will be enough to finally push the team over the top. The Monarchs have suffered with a combined 2-16 record during their two years of existence. With new coaches and fresh new talent, the Monarchs are planning on having a breakout year in 2010.

Crusaders @ Hitmen 7PM (Muskego HS)

The Hitmen and Crusaders both had sub par years in 2009, and both are trying to turn things around against each other in week one. Muskego fans hope new head coach Carter Robbins can take the team back to the Ironbowl. The Crusaders have reloaded this off-season with hopes of returning to the playoffs.

Storm @ Gladiators 6PM (Monterrey Stadium)

The Storm get a shot at taking an early Conference lead in week one, but the Gladiators have other ideas in mind. Both teams have solid defenses but both lack offensive big play ability. This one should be an early AFC slugfest that might not be decided until the final seconds of the game. Kickoff is set for 6PM.

One thing is for sure, whichever IFL stadium venue fans plan to attend this year, they can be assured that they will have a great time. Quality football and family-oriented entertainment will be the campaign’s trademark. Are you ready for some football?
