Rookie gamebreaker is exciting to watch
September 11, 2006
From the beginning, football has been a big part of (WR #7) Solomon Cabell's life. He always loved the sport and dreamed of playing in the NFL. Growing up he enjoyed watching Bruce Smith, a distant cousin of his, play on Sundays in the NFL. His father also played a couple of years in the NFL before sustaining a career-ending injury. He really had a passion for the game and when it comes to that passion, it seems, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
For the most part, Solomon started playing organized football his freshman year at Cudahy High School (WI). Fortunately for him, he had the privilege of playing with two future NFL players (John Navarre-QB and Lamar Gordon-RB), so he experienced on a daily basis what it takes to be great. By his junior year he moved to Miami, Fl and played for South Broward High School. It wasn't until this move that he realized not only could he play football but, "God had blessed me with enough talent to be great at it." He also had the benefit of being able to work with another future NFL player (Travis Daniels-DB) who played WR/DB as did Solomon. He was able to battle Travis on both sides of the ball in practice. That was when Solomon secured a starting spot on defense and he ended up leading the county in interceptions! Solomon had numerous recruiters interested in him and chose a scholarship to Florida International University to play football and run track. (Solomon also was one of the Top 3, 400-meter runners in the state at this time). Solomon quit football before ever playing in a game and did not play until he found The Milwaukee Venom.
At the end of 2005, a couple of friends of his, Kevin Fisher (#24 MLB/FB) and Jamar Scott (#27 WR) told him about a semi-pro football league called the IFL. They invited him to train with them for the combine and his reaction was to brush it off and forget about it. It wasn't until a week or two before the actual combine that they convinced him to come to tryout with them. If only to see how fast he could run a forty yard dash or how high his vertical jump was. He enjoyed the competition of the combine and after seeing how organized The Milwaukee Venom were, brought back that burning desire to compete on the field. He decided to play for the Venom and the rest, as they say, is history.
