Perseverance & fire makes Derocher an all-star

March 24, 2007 Fred Derocher

Fred Derocher is a big time wide receiver and always manages to come through when his team needs him the most. The 27 year old out of Cedarburg is a fierce competitor and relies on crisp route running and sure hands rather than using pure blazing speed.

Derocher is an IFL all-star who catches touchdowns on a regular basis. He is unique in that instead of spiking the ball after scoring, he'd rather just simply hand the ball to the official. He is the gold without the chrome, confident, determined and genuine, but never flashy. He had a great high school career as well, surpassing 1,000 yards receiving and catching 44 balls in his senior year.

After high school he played in the USA Cup where he and a selected group of players went up against the British National Team. He was asked to play in the annual Shrine Bowl game before he attended Northern Michigan were he played as a walk on. Despite making the team as a walk on, Derocher was determined to excel and prove to the coaches that he belonged and would not disappoint. Cracking the starting line-up as a true freshman, Derocher lead the team that year in receptions and touchdowns and was voted the MVP at his position by his teammates and coaches.

Following that great season, Derocher was hindered by serious injuries including a torn hamstring and a medial collateral ligament in his knee, which sidelined his career. With his football career ended, he focused on his college grades and graduated with a 4.0 GPA and a degree.
