Hit man

September 1, 2008 Zak Gordon

The Madison Mustangs Ironman Zak Gordon #24 does it all, plays five different positions and is one of the most feared hitters in the league.

Madison Mustangs MVP Zak Gordon epitomizes the word “Ironman” in the Ironman Football League. Zak is one of the most, if not the most, respected players in the IFL; and he has earned it. Whether it is on defense, offense, or special teams, opponents find and know where #24 is at all times.

Zak grew up in Dubuque, Iowa, where he attended Hempstead High School, where he wrestled and played football, grabbing 1st Team All-Conference, Area, and State honors in football. After graduating in 1997, he passed up an opportunity to walk-on at Iowa to play at nearby DIII Coe College to wrestle and play football. Zak had a great career at Coe ending it by being named All-Conference (3x), Team MVP, DIII All-American Strong Safety 1st team, and being invited to NFL Combines. But having suffered a broken leg, the combines never amounted to anything solid and Zak had to move on.

In 2001, after accepting a job offer, Zak moved to Madison, Wisconsin where he worked in Financing. In 2002 he met some guys that played for the Madison Seminoles and the rest is history! Since that day Zak ”Flash” Gordon has dominated the IFL.

Zak is the only player in IFL history to be named a multiple time IFL All-Star at multiple positions (4 – WR, SS, OLB, & KR/PR).  When asked about Zak’s presence on the Madison Mustangs, Director of Football Operations and Offensive Coordinator Adam Smith had this to say, “Zak is unbelievable! He only has one speed…All Out! On defense he diagnoses plays so quickly and boom he’s at the ball. When he has the ball in his hands he’s fearless, he’s the best cutter I’ve ever seen. And he will hit you!”  Just ask any QB, RB, and WR in the IFL. Ask Venom TE James Henner. When asked about Zak Gordon, Muskego Hitmen TE Markel Thompson said “that dude hit me so hard I didn’t want to get up. I’ve never been hit like that.” Fellow All-Star defensive back mate Will Smith has a nickname for Zak, “I call him Voorhees [Jason Voorhees], because of the way he stalks and slices through the offense and just kills kats!”

It goes without saying that Zak Gordon is not only one of the most respected players on the Mustangs but throughout the entire IFL. He is a no question IFL Hall of Famer, whenever he decides to hang them up, and a great ambassador of the League.
