Hitmen, Outlaws win conference championships

3 Overtimes needed to crown National champ

Last Saturday, IFL fans braved a monsoon and watched the Muskego Hitmen take the National Conference title from the arch rival Madison Mustangs in a 14-7 triple overtime victory.

The rain was coming down so hard in the third quarter that there were two inches of standing water on the field, as players fought through the muddy quagmire of the Milwaukee Sports Complex. With all the standing water on the field and with the football feeling like a slippery 10 pound rock, this game turned out to be a big defensive battle.

Toward the final seconds of the third overtime with the score tied at 7-7, the Mustangs fumbled the ball on the quarterback/center exchange and a Muskego lineman recovered the ball for the winning touchdown.

Outlaws earn trip to Iron Bowl XI

The second game of the Saturday night double header featured the Franklin Outlaws vs. the Roscoe Rush for the American Conference Championship. The Outlaws dominated the game with a tenacious defense and a strong running attack.

The Rush could not get anything going on offense as both teams where playing in torrential rains. Franklin defeated the Rush 14-0 and will make their first trip to the Ironbowl next weekend.

The Muskego Hitmen will battle the Franklin Outlaws in Ironbowl XI next Sunday for the Ironman Football League's greatest prize.
