Blue Devils hand out post-season awards

Burlington, WI – The Burlington Blue devils held an awards banquet last Saturday night to honor all of those that made special contributions this past season. 2008 proved to be the Blue devils best season as a franchise as they compiled a 7-2 regular season record and made their first ever trip to the American Conference Title Game.

The banquet was held at Los Compadres in Burlington, Wisconsin were team owner Tom Hawkins treated his team to beer and offered them a fabulous dinner. The Banquet concluded with a special awards ceremony where special teams and receiving threat Kevin Barret won “Team MVP“. Barret had 854 return yards while scoring 4 touchdowns on special teams. He also contributed at the wide receiver position where he burned opposing defenses for 618 yards while scoring four times.

Quarterback Brent Ferdinand took home “Offensive MVP” as he threw for over 2,114 yards and scored 18 touchdowns through the air while only throwing 9 interceptions.

“Defensive MVP” went to Defensive Tackle Calvin Jackson and Co-MVP cornerback Tony Grisham. Jackson racked up 51 tackles (8 for a loss) and dropped opposing quarterbacks seven times for sacks. Grisham made 47 tackles while intercepting the ball 9 times last season.

Adrian Davis won “Rookie of the Year” honors at running back. Despite missing 2 games due to injury, Davis still was able to burn defenses on the ground by racking up 692 yards on 64 carries and scored 3 touchdowns.
