This past weekend’s playoff games were exciting and filled with upsets. Fans anxiously look forward to next weekend’s Conference Championships.
The Wauwatosa Spartans lost an exciting nail-biter to the Burlington Blue Devils last Saturday in double overtime 13-7.
The score was deadlocked at 7-7 until Blue Devil running back Adrian Davis hit pay dirt and scored on a 35-yard touchdown run to ice the game.
The Spartans ended a bittersweet season while the Blue Devils will make an appearance in their first American Conference Championship game.
The Madison Mustangs ended the Fond du Lac Crusaders’ crusade for a championship beating them convincingly 59-0. Record-wise, the Mustangs are the best team in the league and are poised to cap their dream season with a big trophy on September 6th.
The biggest upset this past weekend was when the Milwaukee Venom beat the Muskego Hitmen 21-14.
Tony Henner hooked up for six by dialing up Solomon Cabell’s number for an 8-yard touchdown pass and a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.
After a Hitmen turnover, Venom fullback Kyle Wilson scored from 5 yards out to increase the Venom lead to 14-0. The Hitmen rallied when Janatis hooked up with his tight end Kurt Bork for a touchdown, and also later on when Holloway returned a 60-yard punt for another score.
The Venom, however, proved to be too much for Muskego to handle as Solomon Cabell’s 88-yard punt return for a touchdown capped the victory. The win sets up a second National Conference Championship appearance for the Venom as they hope to appear in their first Iron Bowl.
The Roscoe Rush continued their perennial playoff run as they defeated the McHenry County Pirates 48-14. The Rush are firing on all cylinders with a full head of steam towards the American Conference Championship Game.
