Players show big muscles, bigger hearts

October 5 , 2007 American Conference All-Star

On Saturday, September 29th, players from the IFL got together to pull a plane. That’s right, a full size 717. Why? To raise money for the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer).

The event, sponsored by Midwest Express/Laacke & Joys and Bob and Brian from the HOG, was held at the Midwest Express hanger at Mitchell International Airport. 30 teams from the Milwaukee area entered the competition. Each team consisted of 12 people, with a minimum of 3 females.

The goal was to pull a plane, which was a Boeing 717 weighing 120,000, across the tarmac 15 feet in the least amount of time. The team of IFL players, led by team captain Nick Corgiat of the Lake Country Cyclones, set the bar for the event by winning the 1st round with a pull time of 8.0 seconds. Of the 30 teams, the top 15 advanced to the next round.

After attempting to change their strategy for the 2nd round, the “Cyclones” looked less than strong enough to move on to the finals. They squeaked by finishing 5th out of the 7 teams to advance. Frustrated by their second round performance, the “Cyclones” showed determination and strength and finished with a final time of 7.9 seconds.

The prize was a round trip airline ticket to anywhere in the U.S. for each of the 12 team members. Not too bad for a days work. Team members from the IFL consisted of team captain, Nick Corgiat, Mike Barker, Benji Rossman, Randall Cornwell; all of the Lake Country Cyclones, and Adam Kujath from the Oak Creek Cyclones. Other team members were Tim Kubena, Jeff Price, Eric B,Tim Kujawa, Amy Kujawa-Corgiat, Kelly Corgiat, and Betsy S. All proceeds from the event went to research for childhood cancer.
