Madison to host Iron Bowl XII

August 4 , 2008 Iron Bowl XII

The Ironman Football League is constantly working to improve in every aspect and this year proves to be no exception. League Owner/CEO, Chris Chudada, proudly announced last Friday night that Ironbowl XII will be played in Madison. The game will be held at Middleton High school’s Breitenbach Stadium on September 6th at 7PM. This will mark the first time since 2004 that the league’s big game will be played somewhere other than the Milwaukee County Sports Complex in Franklin. It will also mark the first time ever that an Ironbowl will have a “Field Turf” surface. The synthetic turf has no limitations for use or severe weather and has been proven to be a safe playing surface for athletes. Field Turf has been shown to reduce leg fatigue resulting in fewer ankle, ACL, and other injuries.

This is only the beginning of the league’s plan to potentially feature the Ironbowl at different IFL markets every year.

Chris Chudada said that in the future, the location of the Ironbowl will be chosen by the IFL well in advance; usually two to three years before the game. IFL franchises will have a chance to place bids for the opportunity to host an Ironbowl.

Candidates for hosting will be evaluated in terms of stadium quality and overall ability to host an Ironbowl. Chudada also said that there are plans in the works to create a special “Playoff and Ironbowl Committee” in which committee members will work hard to make the league’s biggest game even bigger.

The Madison Mustangs released this statement on Saturday about their opportunity to host Ironbowl XII:

“The Madison Mustangs are very excited that this season’s Ironbowl will be held at the Madison Mustangs facility, Middleton High Schools’ Breitenbach Stadium. I know the city of Madison and its surrounding communities will come out to support the teams representing the Ironman Football League in Ironbowl XII.”

The opportunity to have the Ironman Football League’s biggest game in a premiere football stadium, such as Breitenbach Stadium, and in a football town like Madison excites a lot of IFL fans. Middleton's stadium was originally built in 1967 and was renovated in 1977. The stadium press box was renovated in 2002. The stadium was renovated again in 2007, this time including a synthetic turf football field and ample seating for fans. With the renovation, the stadium was renamed “Breitenbach Stadium” while the field remains Memorial Field. The stadium is the home to the Middleton Cardinals and host to some of the most exciting sporting events in WIAA history.
