Rush defeat Plowmen for Windy City Showdown championship

The Roscoe Rush scored on their first possession and went on to defeat the Bradley Plowmen 52-0 to win the Windy City Showdown Tournament Championship.

The Rush opened up the scoring with Jason Hufford connecting with Justin Opengo on a touchdown pass. The first possession for the Bradley Plowmen ended quickly as Javon Oden intercepted a pass and returned it 60 yards for the touchdown, giving the Rush a 14-0 lead.

The second quarter scoring was started by Deejay Spencer’s touchdown run, and Jason Hufford throwing his second touchdown pass of the day, this time to Jason Cook. Jason Hufford called his own number as he scored on a one yard TD run to give the Rush a 35-0 lead at halftime.

The second half started with the Rush defense holding the Plowmen to three-and-out. Roscoe moved the ball into scoring territory and Julie Harshbarger kicked a 33 yard field goal to extend the lead to 38-0. Justin Opengo intercepted a pass and returned it 75 yards to end the scoring for the 3rd quarter and giving the Rush a 45-0 lead. The scoring was capped off by Jason Hufford rushing for his second TD of the game.

The Rush defense had a tremendous goal-line stand to preserve the shutout and the 52-0 victory. Julie Harshbarger was 7-for-7 on PATs and 1-for-1 on field goals. This marks the end of the 2008 season for the Rush as they end with a 16-3 overall record on the year.
