Rush ask for support in 12th annual Relay for Life

February 3, 2008

Roscoe, IL- The Roscoe Rush of the Ironman Football League has teamed with the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is the Society’s signature fundraiser that brings together the entire community. The overnight event features teams of local businesses, schools, churches, community groups, friends and families who designate at least one member at a time to walk or run on a track throughout the night.

The 12th annual Relay For Life of Winnebago South; which will be held Friday and Saturday, June 20-21, 2008 at Rockford First Assembly/Christian Life has set a goal to raise $90,000 for important cancer research programs based in Illinois , as well as nationally. In addition, the money raised through Relay For Life funds; cancer education and prevention programs, advocacy efforts and local patient services.

Relay Day begins with teams of 8-15 people setting up tents and sleeping bags at each team’s campsite. The event begins with the Survivor’s Lap, where cancer survivors are honored for their courage. Then, each team is encouraged to have one person on the track at all times. At dusk, the field is encircled with glowing luminaries as the Luminary Ceremony takes place.

Each bag represents a life touched by cancer. Last year, 197 American Relay For Life events were held across Illinois . Thanks to volunteers who want to see cancer erased from our lives, $18.5 million was raised.

Whatever you can give will help- it all adds up!  We greatly appreciate your support in this worthwhile cause!
