The IFL presents, “The Tom Roach Field General Award”

August 11, 2008Tommy Roach

The Ironman Football League has a lot of great awards it hands out every year. Whether it be the “Franchise of the Year” trophy or “Ironman of the Year” award, the league believes in rewarding those deserving individuals who measure above and beyond their peers, on the field and off. With the playoffs less than a week away, the league has announced that it will be handing out an additional award to the best Quarterback at the Awards Banquet this year.

The new annual award will be called “The Tom Roach Field General Award,” named after the man who many say was and still is the best quarterback the league has ever seen, Tommy Roach. Tommy Roach retired from the IFL in 2005. He was a legendary quarterback who made the position he played look so easy and did it with style and grace.

Tommy started his career in the Ironman Football League as co-owner of the Milwaukee Raiders back in 1999. In their first year of existence, they compiled a record of 9-0 and went on to crush the Bay View Beast in Ironbowl III. He went on to have a great career becoming the most successful quarterback in league history. By the end of his career, his achievements were remarkable. They included four Ironbowl championships, two conference championships, two League MVP awards, two “Quarterback of the Year” awards, and an unbelievable winning record of 68-8 as a starter. Tommy Roach was inducted into the IFL Hall of Fame in 2007.

The winner of the new “Tom Roach Field General Award” will be chosen from the four quarterbacks that are selected as IFL All-Stars (two from each conference) each year. The league has also confirmed that Tom Roach himself will be on hand to present the award to the selected individual at the league banquet.
