Monarchs debut falls short
June 16, 2008
Wauwatosa, WI – Last Saturday night at Wisconsin Lutheran College, the expansion St. Francis Monarchs took on the Spring City Cyclones. This was the official start of the season for both squads, as their games were cancelled last week due to severe weather conditions. The game proved to be a real defensive battle, as both teams fiercely fought to open their seasons 1-0.
Monarchs kick returner Miguel Vargas (7) returned a punt 67 yards to the house, giving the Monarchs an early 6-0 lead in the second quarter. Despite Vargas providing good field position all game long, the Monarchs offense couldn’t seem to get going, and the Cyclones responded with 13 unanswered points. They went on to win the game by a score of 13-6.
The Cyclones and Monarchs will both be playing at Waukesha South High School next weekend, and both games will be televised by Time Warner Cable. The Monarchs play the undefeated Wauwatosa Spartans at 5pm, while the Cyclones host the Burlington Blue Devils at 8pm.
