Venom come out on top
June 16, 2008
Franklin, WI – Last Sunday night at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex, the Milwaukee Venom hosted the Fond du Lac Crusaders in a National Conference showdown.
The Crusaders struck first, as Tony Gribben connected with wide receiver Rodney Ellison on a 76-yard piece of perfection that had Crusader fans on their feet and cheering.
Venom quarterback Tony Henner and company had other ideas though, quieting the crowd with 3 scoring strikes and showing glimpses of what they are capable of when firing on all cylinders.
Both defenses were thoroughly plundered as the teams continued their offensive onslaught all throughout the game. The Crusaders kept it close however, unveiling their high powered offense. A tough ground game and precise passing turned into a couple of touchdowns for the Crusaders, and they trailed the Venom by just six (33-27) with 48 seconds left in regulation.
Fond du Lac’s ensuing onside kick attempt was recovered by the Venom though, effectively ending their comeback bid.
The Crusaders will host the New Berlin Panthers in Fond du Lac next Saturday, and the Venom will travel to Muskego to take on the Hitmen. Both games start at 7pm.
