Blue Devils remain undefeated

Kenosha, WI - The Burlington Blue Devils stay perfect while beating the St Francis Monarchs 38 - 13 last Saturday night in Kenosha. The game was an emotional win for the defense after hearing the news of the loss of defensive captain Jeremy Fisher for the season. Fisher who was injured in last weeks win over the Gladiators had surgery to repair a torn quadriceps tendon. The team reports Fisher is currently doing well and is expected to make a full recovery. The secondary however did a fine job intercepting the monarchs 5 times to prove that Fisher will be missed, but can get the job done with #2 on the sidelines.
The Blue Devils started cold giving up a 12-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. The extra pt was blocked giving the Monarchs a 6 to 0 lead. The Burlington Offense being behind in a contest for the first time this year responded well when Quarterback Brent Ferdinand hit Brandon Tobias for a 25 yard score. The PAT was good by Jordan Brown giving Burlington the lead 7 to 6. Early in the second quarter Punt returner Kevin Barrett danced, twisted and out ran the Monarch coverage team on a 60 yard punt return. The PAT was good giving the Blue Devils a 14 to 6 lead. The score would be locked until the third quarter.
“We started slow out of the gate and needed to find some rhythm. We had a mediocre practice week, which was addressed at halftime,” Tom Hawkins said. The Blue Devil offense came out firing driving the length of the field with Adrian Davis scoring from 10 yards out. The Pat was good making the score 21 to 6. The Monarchs scored their final points when a questionable pass interference call put the Monarchs inside the five-yard line. The Monarchs finished with a QB keeper from the 1-yard line. The Pat was good, but St Francis still trailed 21 to 13. Late in the third Barrett scored his second TD of the night when Ferdinand hit him in stride on a 55-yard toss. The Pat was good giving Burlington the lead 28 to 13.
Midway during the forth quarter Jordan Brown kicked a 30-yard field goal expanding Burlington’s lead 31 to 13. Brown who was 1 for 2 on the night and perfect in the PAT column seems to be getting on track He also kicked 2 balls out of the end zone on kickoffs. The Blue Devils would secure the win late in the forth quarter when Quarterback Brett Statema hit Tobias for his second TD of the night on a 20 yard pass. The Pat was good giving the final score Blue Devils 38 and the Monarch 13. The Blue Devil defense continues to play consistent football giving up less than 130 total offense in the game.
Up next for the boys in blue are the Layden Lions from Chicago. This is a non-league contest against a highly talented team. Burlington will have to work hard this week in practice if they want to stay on track for perfection and glory. The game is Saturday at Karcher Middle School. Kickoff is at 7pm.
