Predators blow away Cyclones

July 14, 2008 West Allis Predators

Waukesha, WI - The West Allis Predators vaulted back into the playoff hunt with a 22-0 win over the Spring City Cyclones Saturday night.  Breaking tackles and hearts all night long with 132 yards rushing, and 2 touchdowns was Bobby “Boom boom” Windom.  Windom got started early with a 1st quarter 2 yard rumble through the middle of the Cyclone defense, after the first punt return touchdown of the season for Dwayne “Brick” Brigham was wiped out by an illegal block in the back penalty.

Windom would score on yet another carry during his monstrous first half, ensuring the Predators Offense set the tone early.  Catching both 2 point conversions was Greg “Dr 4.3 McForty” Rebella, giving the Predators a 16-0 lead with less than 3 minutes to play in the half.  Spring City took the field in a 4 wide set, unwilling to cede the two score lead, and immediately started slinging the ball.  They threw often, and they threw well.

After three successful completions, and their initial first down of the game, Cyclone QB Nick Koenen misjudged the breaking ability of West Allis Outside Linebacker Jake Klipp, who jumped in front of the Cyclone’s last pass of the first half, and snared his second interception in as many games.

Defense was the story of the second half of the game.  The lone score came on a goal line pass from Predators QB Derek Daily to Tight End “Jo-Jo” Hansen.  West Allis FS Dwayne “Brick” Brigham snatched two interceptions, and the Predators Defense surrendered only 2 more first downs in the third and fourth quarters of play.  Spring City showed heart, and continued playing punishing defense, but the West Allis running attack, defense, and machismo proved too much for them to overcome.

The Cyclones will host the Roscoe Rush next weekend in a non-conference game.  The game is at Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday July 19 at 5pm, while West Allis heads into their bye week, hoping to get some injured players recuperated for their match up with perennial league power Muskego on Saturday July 27.
