Hitmen win, ride 4 game winning streak into playoffs

August 4 , 2008 Hitmen

Wauwatosa, WI – On a warm and sunny evening at Wisconsin Lutheran College, the Muskego Hitmen scored eight unanswered touchdowns to beat the Spring City Cyclones, 57-0 to extend their winning streak to four games.

The scoring began early and often for Muskego. On the first drive of the game, the Hitmen marched downfield against the Cyclone defense primarily with the passing game. A screen pass to HB Mike Hill and shovel pass to TE Kurt Bork moved Muskego into Spring City’s red zone. The drive was capped off with a 4 yard touchdown pass from QB Andrew Janatis to WR Mike Hicks. After forcing the Cyclones to punt on their first series, Muskego put another one in the end zone just minutes later. The second score of the game came on a 32 yard scamper by HB Mike Hill. After the first quarter, the Hitmen led, 14-0.

In the second frame, Muskego remained unrelenting. An early 34 yard field goal by K Brad Abraham gave way to a LB Jason Huckstorf interception off Cyclone QB Jared Cisz. The turnover set up another HB Mike Hill touchdown run, this time from 3 yards out. Before the half ended, Hill solidified his spot in the backfield with yet another rushing touchdown. His third and final score of the game came on a 1 yard touchdown plunge between the tackles. At the break, Muskego led, 31-0.

The Hitmen scored 26 more points in the second half to finish off the Cyclones. A rushing score by HB Steve Miick, a passing score by QB Brent Staudt, an interception return touchdown by LB Tom Quinn, and a punt return touchdown by PR Carmelo Velazquez effectively put the game out of reach.

With the win, Muskego ends the season with a 7-2 record, which is good enough for second place in the National Conference. The Hitmen have next week off but they return to action on Saturday, August 16th for their Wildcard Playoff round game. The loss drops Spring City to 1-7 on the season. The Cyclones face the New Berlin Panthers in the season finale next Sunday at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex. Kickoff is at 5pm.
